Pillar “For the Love of the Game” coming in Feb. 26

Christian Rock leader Pillar will release its fifth-studio album, the big, fun and commanding, For Love of the Game, on February 26, 2008. The buzz is well underway. During the 2007 MLB (Major League Baseball) World Series, the title track was prominently featured during ESPN’’s nightly program, Baseball Tonight. Nearly one month prior to its official add-date at radio, ““For the Love of the Game” was most added at R&R Christian Rock Radio. For the Love of the Game was recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville, Tennessee, and was produced by Travis Wyrick (Disciple, Spoken, P.O.D.).

“We love what we get to do!” shares Pillar lead man, Rob Beckley. “We get to say that we play rock ‘n roll for a living. We get to see lives changed. We have a renewed love and focus. With that in mind, making For the Love of the Game was very fun, and very fluent; it just came out. We went into the studio knowing what the album was going to be called and we were able to carry the vision through. We wanted to have a positive, bright, fun sounding record. That was our intent from the beginning. We trust that as people hear this record, God will use it to change lives. That’’s the ultimate fuel for our fire. When someone tells us, ‘‘your music changed my marriage, or brought me closer to God,’ that’s when we know God is using our music, and that’’s what it’s all about to us.”

One track on For the Love of the Game that Pillar is particularly proud of is “Turn It Up.” “It’s a tribute to Christian music,” Rob explains. “Every lyric in that song is an album title or song title from another Christian band, with the exception of two lines. All in all, there are 34 bands represented in that song; bands whose songs have influenced us and impacted us. In preparation for writing and recording For the Love of the Game, I listened to a whole lot of Christian music. Prior to Pillar, I didn’t know the Christian music world existed. Over the last year, I’ve fully come to understand just how well the Christian music world is established. In today’’s music market, Christian bands are starting to set musical standards. Bands like Underoath, for example, are really making a huge impact on the music scene, and that is really cool to me. I want people to know that we are a Christian band. We are proud of who we are!”

The ten-track project comprises the following: “For the Love of the Game,” “Turn It Up,” “Reckless Youth,” “State of Emergency,” “Smiling Down,” “The Runaway,” “Throwdown,” “Get Back,” “I Fade Away,” and “Forever Starts Now.”

Listening in radios music online

I love to Listening in radios music online. It is a cheap and suitable way, and to me online radios are more and more replacing the usual radio sets, although I still use my mini hifi tower quite extensively.

Finding free music for videos or auditory podcasts seems to be one of the hardest activities. Most of the audio content obtainable online is protected by copyrights and the threat of bumping into illegal content is always in the air. Is it likely to have access to music that is freely downloadable and distributable? The following piece might give you the answer.

YoUnG CoMpOsEr’S PaSsIoN

From Mozart to Beethoven, Bach to Brahms, Tchaikovsky to Handel, Chopin to Debussy, the record of musical composers that showed outstanding talent as children and consequently embarked on their illustrious careers from a young age is both endless and astounding.

Even today, we hear stories of six-year-old piano and violin prodigies who write their own music and present for politicians and celebrities.

While we could learn a musical instrument at any age, it seems that the art of composing could be something one is born with.

Eighteen-year-old Mark Ahenda is one such youth who seems to have been born with a certain sum of musical genius.

He just graduated from William Aberhart High School and during his time there, he displayed astounding talent and ability.

In addition to completing his ARCT in piano, which includes 10 grades plus an associate diploma, Mark is also a talented trumpet player, winning copious citywide competitions over the last few years, including the Kiwanis Music Festival, Calgary’s largest competitive music festival.

This year, for the first time after winning his class, Mark was proposed to compete in the Kiwanis Provincial Competition.

Mark’s talent for playing instruments and his passion for music led him last year, in his Grade 11 year, to begin composing his own pieces and it seems he has quite a wonderful gift.

Sanctus Real fall “We Need Each Other” tour

Dove Award-winning modern rock band Sanctus Real will showcase music from its acclaimed February 2008 release, We Need Each Other, live on tour this fall. The “We Need Each Other” tour, additionally featuring Tenth Avenue North, VOTA and speaker Sammy Adebiyi, will visit more than 30 cities nationwide.

Kicking off Sept. 4, 2008 in Perrysburg, Ohio, the “We Need Each Other” tour will makes its way through 16 states from Maine to Florida, Pennsylvania to California, wrapping up on Nov. 8, 2008. Beginning July 18, fans who purchase their ticket at iTickets.com will receive a free download of an exclusive acoustic version of “Black Coal” from We Need Each Other. The promotion will run through Aug. 8.

“This tour is a chance for people to experience the best of what we’ve been building for over a decade,” says Sanctus Real frontman Matt Hammitt. “Every show is focused on strengthening the relationship between us and our audience. Together, we will accomplish something much greater than music or a concert. Together, we will change lives.”

“This Fall’s tour with Sanctus Real has shaped up to be extremely well-received among churches spreading as far North as Maine and even out to California and the Pacific Northwest,” says Kevin Huffman, artist agent for Third Coast Artists Agency. “Our contacts have embraced the vision of Sanctus Real and their heart for relief in Africa, along with the added support from Tenth Avenue North, Vota and speaker Sammy Adebiyi.”

One of the top Christian rock bands today, Toledo, Ohio-based Sanctus Real’s breakthrough album, The Face of Love, released in April 2006, landing at No 2 on the Billboard Top Heetseekers chart and amassing a string of radio hits including No. 1 songs “I’m Not Alright” and “Don’t Give Up.” While The Face of Love was inspired by real-life heartache and rediscovered joy, the band’s fourth studio release, We Need Each Other, marks a completion of that healing process and is a call for unity. Described by multiple media outlets as Sanctus Real’s best project to date, the record’s title track was a No. 1 hit on Christian Hit Radio. Popularly known for its captivating live performance, the group most recently toured with Third Day last spring. A complete “We Need Each Other” tour itinerary follows this release. For all the latest Sanctus Real news, go to www.sanctusreal.com, www.myspace.com/sanctusreal, and www.emicmg.com.

Tenth Avenue North, made up of members Mike Donehey (lead vocalist/acoustic guitar), Jason Jamison (drummer), Jeff Owen (electric guitar/background vocals) and Scott Sanders (bass guitar), has been featuring its brand of intellectual, melodic, pop-rock on tour in support of its single, “Love Is Here,” and its debut project, Over and Underneath. “Simply, our mission as a band is to know Christ and to make him known,” says Donehey. “It’s a grand adventure.” With one listen to the music of Tenth Avenue North, it becomes obvious that songwriter Mike Donehey and his bandmates have a gift for expressing truth in a way that simultaneously educates, enlightens and entertains. They are as much teachers, as artists, demonstrating this through their intellectual, yet vulnerably accessible songs that echo the heart of the human condition and the hope of the risen Savior. Discover more about this up-and-coming band at www.tenthavenuenorth.com.

VOTA, formerly recognized as Casting Pearls, is reinventing themselves with a new name, new sound and new record label. Bryan Olesen, Case Maranville and Scott Rutz wanted to distinguish themselves amongst the crowds and distinguish they did. VOTA signed to INO Records earlier this year and have been busy in Franklin, TN working with producer Nathan Dantzler for their upcoming self-titled album releasing digitally in late fall 2008 with retail release date in the beginning of 2009. They are excited for their fans, both new and old, to hear their newly recorded songs live and share in the next stage of the journey.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Sam’s unlikely journey began in high school when two of his friends each had separate dreams in which they saw Sam preaching to a room full of white people. Since Sam only knew two white people growing up, he decided to follow these ‘dreams’ by applying to colleges in America. While in the U.S. he was presented with the opportunity to serve at a college ministry where he led and taught more than 100 mostly white college students. Last year, Sam led 35 college students to give $3700 in one night to build a well in Africa. Several months later, he challenged his home church of a few hundred people to follow Jesus in the same way, and they gave $7000 in one morning to build two wells. His crazy dreads, unique journey, passion for students and great storytelling are just a few of the many things that make Sam a unique and relevant communicator. He is currently on staff as the college pastor at the Vineyard Church in Toledo, OH where he lives with his new bride, Ashley.

Live Music helps disabled children to socialize

SINGING, dancing, drumming and playing the guitar to children with disabilities helps perk up their social and motor skills, Australian therapists have found.

For one hour each week, Queensland University of Technology’s Kate Williams and a team of music therapists would sit on the floor with a group of immobilize children under five years old, joined by their mothers.

"We have a guitar and we use our voice … and bring along a whole lot of instruments that are easy to get to and motivating," said Ms Williams.

"We’re using some familiar, early childhood repertoire – Twinkle Twinkle and Baa Baa (Black Sheep) and what not – to get them at ease and using their hands for doing events.

"But we also compose and write a lot of our own songs because we want to be targeting particular aspects of the family relationship."

The Queensland University of Technology-based researcher interviewed the mothers of the 201 participants, who had a variety of disabilities including autistic disorders, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.

The parents said they had learnt to use music to sidetrack and calm their children, and noticed their own mental health had improved.

Ms Williams also made clinical observations over the course of the study.

"We were observing really positive changes in parenting behaviors and the relationships between the parents and children," she told AAP.

"It’s very easy to see what these children can’t do and where they’re lacking in their development but, I think we found in music therapy sessions, parents are really confident to see what (the children) actually can do with motivation.

"Even children who couldn’t talk would vocalize.

"The focus is really strength, based on what people can do."

Jeremy Camp update

This year has been a year of renewal and refreshment for Jeremy Camp with the release of his recent album last month "Speaking Louder Than Before." As the year comes to a close, radio and fans are speaking loud and clear in regards to the new album and radio single "There Will Be A Day."

Radio Waves in ’08: With 17 career No. 1 hits under his belt, Jeremy Camp is clearly a powerhouse on the radio waves nationwide across all formats (CHR, AC, INSPO, and Rock). Jeremy is now the artist with the most consecutive No. 1 singles at AC Monitored since 2003 when R&R began their Christian chart. He also received the No. 2 Song of the Year in 2008 with "Let it Fade," which remained in that No. 1 position for more than 10 weeks. In 2008, Jeremy also nabbed No. 1 twice at three different formats.

His most recent single "There Will Be A Day" has already hit the top on three formats on AC Indicator (more than a month at No. 1), CHR and as of last week at AC Monitored. As a renowned songwriter with his radio hits, 2008 also brought Jeremy his third ASCAP Songwriter of the Year (2008, 2006, 2005).

Winning Vote in 2008: No, this isn’t the Presidential election referenced here, but the fact that Jeremy Camp was voted by readers on Christianity Today’s music site as the "Best Male Artist in 2008" marking it his fifth consecutive year named in this category. Jeremy won this year with a landslide as voters awarded Camp twice as many votes as the runner-up.

Speaking Louder Than Before in 2008: The pinnacle of the year for this male vocalist was releasing his fifth studio album co-produced by himself and Brown Bannister. The album debuted on Billboard 200 at No. 38 along with the No. 1 new release on the Billboard Christian chart after street week. Digital purchases shot "Speaking Louder Than Before" to No. 11 on the overall iTunes chart and No. 1 on the Christian albums chart. Billboard also labeled this album as his "best work to date," which clearly fans agree as it has moved his career sales to over three million units.

Coming Up in 2009:

After the holidays, Jeremy Camp will return with major spring tour plans, followed by overseas concerts and a summer filled with festival appearances. For more information on what Jeremy will be doing, visit his official website.

Former guitarist Jody Davis returns to Newsboys

Guitarist Jody Davis returns to newsboys after a five-year hiatus. Davis, who was a member of the band from 1993-2003, contributed to many of newsboys’ greatest hits like “Shine,” “Entertaining Angels,” and “It is You.” In 2003, he took time off to care for his daughter, Bethany, who has cerebral palsy.

“I am thrilled to be returning to the band and back with my bandmates, who are some of my best friends,” says Davis. “This is a big change in my life, and I’m looking forward to the tour and new record with excitement.”

Peter Furler, lead vocalist for newsboys, is also excited about Davis’ return. “Jody is like a brother to all of us, and we have missed him greatly over the last five years. It’s going to be great to have him back with us.”

Paul Colman, who played guitar with newsboys the last three years, will be continuing his solo career and performing shows nationwide in 2009. “My three years with newsboys were among the best of my life. I learned an immeasurable amount about music, ministry, and life, and am happy to say I left with all our friendships wonderfully intact. I always was and always will be one of newsboys’ biggest fans. I am very excited about the return of Jody Davis!”

newsboys will release the title track and debut single, “In The Hands Of God,” from its forthcoming May 5, 2009 project to both AC and CHR radio Jan. 16. The band will also embark on a 30-city “Join the Tribe” tour with special guests DecembeRadio, Vota, and Bread of Stone in February. Additional tour details are forthcoming. Larry Norman dies at 60

4/08/47 – 2/24/08

A Christian music icon passes into eternity…

From the Larry Norman website:

Hello everybody.

Our friend and my wonderful brother Larry passed away at 2:45 Sunday morning [February 24th]. Kristin and I were with him, holding his hands and sitting in bed with him when his heart finally slowed to a stop. We spent this past week laughing, singing, and praying with him, and all the while he had us taking notes on new song ideas and instructions on how to continue his ministry and art.

Several of his friends got to come and visit with him in the last couple of weeks and were a great source of help and friendship to Larry. Ray Sievers, Derek Robertson, Mike Makinster, Tim and Christine Gilman, Matt and Becky Simmons, Kerry Hopkins, Allen Fleming and a few more. Thank you guys. Larry appreciated your visits very much. And he greatly appreciated the thoughts, wishes, support and prayers that came from all of you Solid Rock friends on a daily basis. Thank you for being part of his small circle of friends over the years. Yesterday afternoon he knew he was going to go home to God very soon and he dictated the following message to you while his friend Allen Fleming typed these words into Larry’s computer:

________________________________

I feel like a prize in a box of cracker jacks with God’s hand reaching down to pick me up. I have been under medical care for months. My wounds are getting bigger. I have trouble breathing. I am ready to fly home.

My brother Charles is right, I won’t be here much longer. I can’t do anything about it. My heart is too weak. I want to say goodbye to everyone. In the past you have generously supported me with prayer and finance and we will probably still need financial help.

My plan is to be buried in a simple pine box with some flowers inside. But still it will be costly because of funeral arrangement, transportation to the gravesite, entombment, coordination, legal papers etc. However money is not really what I need, I want to say I love you.

I’d like to push back the darkness with my bravest effort. There will be a funeral posted here on the website, in case some of you want to attend. We are not sure of the date when I will die.

Goodbye, farewell, we will meet again.

Goodbye, farewell, we’ll meet again

Somewhere beyond the sky.

I pray that you will stay with God

Goodbye, my friends, goodbye.

Larry

Music around the world’ has been introduced to Fairmont students

More than 25 kids, siblings, mothers and grandmothers attended the 2nd Annual Mommy & Me, "Music Around the World" event held in recent times at the Anaheim Hills campus of Fairmont Private Schools.

The event, which took place in the school’s soundproof music studio, was an audience participatory musical journey to America, Jamaica, South Africa, Thailand, Wales, Israel, England and West Africa.

Activities included singing songs, listening to stories, and dancing and playing instruments representing the various countries. The kids had the chance to hear the sounds and feel the rhythm as they played such musical instruments as maracas or one of the 14 African tubano drums.

Kids and parents joined hands to form a circle, patted their legs and waved their hands in the air as they cultured a dance similar to a traditional Jewish folk dance.

The program culminated with spare time for the kids to play with the school’s full set of children xylophones, called Orff instruments. Participants each received a special musical instrument, a woodblock, to take home and play the songs learned during the program.

"We know that these experiences at the early childhood level are important for their social, emotional, logical and physical growth," said SarahLynn Zavoral, music specialist. "It also helps lay the basis for when we teach them music literacy in the elementary grades."

Fairmont Private Schools offers program for preschool through eighth grades. The schools also offer summer camp programs.

Celebrity Favorites: Chris Bosh

MTV Shows

Chris Bosh belongs to the Miami Heat’s "big three" along with Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. And when it comes to hip-hop, his dream team is already lined up.

"Jay-Z, Kanye West and Drake," the All-Star said without blinking. "Easy! Well, just the fact of Jay-Z’s longevity. And he can really rap. Some of his stuff from ’01 and The Blueprint is stuff I’m just now getting. Like, ‘Ohhhh, that’s what he meant. OK, I get that line.’ He was so far ahead in what he rapped about and what he did. I’m just now catching up. Kanye is super creative in what he can do with the beat machine. And his words, he’s more a passionate type of guy. He puts his feelings out there and doesn’t care what anybody thinks. Drake is the smooth guy. He’s gonna come in and sing. Plus Drake, we share something in common: We pretty much started our professional careers in Toronto. And I think those are the best three guys out right now."

Music therapy in critical care

Music therapy is an effective intervention for critically ill patients for such purposes as nervousness reduction and stress management. The therapy is readily accepted by patients and is an intervention patients thoroughly enjoy.

The MAIT is one resource that nurses caring for critically ill patients can use to implement music therapy in clinical practice. Patients can be given the opportunity to select a musical tape they prefer and to negotiate with the nurse for uninterrupted music-listening periods.

Allowing patients control over music selection and providing uninterrupted time for music listening gives the patients an enhanced sense of control in an environment that often controls them.

So Oliver Wendell Holmes says

Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons. You will find it is to the soul what a water bath is to the body.

Swedish hitmaker Shellback – who co-wrote her song 3 – has been collaborating with the Toxic singer on the follow-up to the Circus, and admits he’s impressed by her devotion to her music.

"[Britney]‘s actually damn professional," he revealed. "You read a lot on the internet that Britney is not singing and mimes, but she is actually damn professional.

"She’s done it since she was 16. And just rhythmic way, she is f**king awesome!," he enthused. "And you do not have to go through and talk about the rhythms and stuff that you sometimes have to do. She’s very easy in the studio."

Britney releases the album in March 2011. Other producers working on the record include Dr Luke, Max Martin, Rusko, Labrinth, Chase & Status and Fraser T Smith.

Michael W. Smith to release A New Hallelujah Oct. 28

On June 20, 2008 in Houston, Texas, along with more than 12,000 in attendance, Michael W. Smith recorded his third worship album, A New Hallelujah, which will be available everywhere October 28, 2008 (Reunion Records). A choir of 250, along with special guests, The African Children’s Choir and worship leaders Israel Houghton and Coalo Zamorano, led a two-hour worship event, yielding A New Hallelujah.

The upcoming record, Smith’s 21st, will offer a unique, moving worship experience through songs like “Mighty to Save,” “Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone” and “I Surrender All,” (song list subject to change) along with several new songs that Michael wrote especially for the project. The title track was penned by Smith, his wife Debbie and friend Paul Baloche. The album was arranged and produced by Smith.

“Since my last world tour a few years ago, I’ve been looking forward to recording a live worship project that reflected something more global than I’ve ever done before; a collection of songs and voices to translate what I experienced that year. I had hoped for an evening of worship that reflected the corners of our nation, and the world; I think we captured that,” shares Smith. “My great friend Israel Houghton, the world renowned African Children’s Choir, an incredible young worship leader named Coalo Zamorano and a 250-voice choir elevated the songs to amazing moments of praise and worship. It was more than I could have hoped for.”

Smith’s first worship album, simply titled Worship, released on September 11, 2001 and has sold more than a million-and-a half copies. It’s follow up Worship Again released September 19, 2002 and is nearing the 800,000 mark.

Throughout his 25-year career as a recording artist, Michael W. Smith has amassed an impressive catalog of achievements. His 20 albums have garnered multiple honors including an American Music Award, 3 GRAMMY Awards (from 13 nominations) and 42 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards and 33 No. 1 radio hits. In addition, he holds 16 Gold and 5 Platinum albums and career sales approaching 15 million.

Smith has scored several film projects, written 11 books and been named one of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful People. His tours consistently rank among the best attended in the country and he has performed to capacity crowds throughout the world. Constantly giving back to the community, one of his current projects is Rocketown — a nightclub for teens in his hometown of Nashville, Tenn. — which serves as safe place for young people to enjoy music and for artists to be discovered. He is married to Debbie Smith and they are the proud parents of five children.
